With the logo...

Illustrator layout

Not sure about bounding box in blue. If so, should it be curved at the corners or rounded?

Layout

Initial sketch of the layout sections. Just about to illustrator it up so we can just fill them in, will put that up when it's done.

guys i'm struggling with a symbol for artificial intelligence (ai) get thinking for tomorrow.

Directions

For Faye: walk down alferton road, untill you see 'texas chicken' on the right hand side-there's a road there called forest green west, go down there until you come a cross road. at the cross take the right hand road, called burns street. the fist left is my road 'gedling grove' walk all the way to the end and my house is number 14 on your right hand side.

For Dan, Ravi: walk up the tram line to the 'highschool' stop. there is a road at this stop on the left-this is my road, my house is third/forth on your left hand side, number 14.

see you at 12.00

Narrative

Hey sorry, it's probably not very clear, it must be really frustrating working like this!

Ok, narrative. Basically, we were thinking about creating some sort of direction between the links of the symbols and the circuit board symbols. Maybe having certain symbols that link together in real-life, linked together in the design too, also combining the meanings of the circuit board symbols. So that it kind of tells a story or has some meaning, and so that people really want to spend time examining it. For example, I was thinking about having a light bulb and the globe linked, maybe with a circuit symbol for a heater inbetween, so that it makes a slight reference to the use of electricity increasing global warming. Pure genius!
Does that make more sense? Let me know if not.

Also, the areas of the science museum...

Exploring Space
Energy Hall
Making the Modern World

Agriculture
Challenge of Materials
Computing
Docks and Diving
Flight
Glimpses of Medical History
Health Matters
Marine Engineering
Mathematics
Psychology: Mind Your Head
The Science and Art of Medicine
Science in the 18th Century
The Secret Life of the Home
Shipping
Surveying
Talking Points
Telecommunications
Time Measurement
Veterinary History
Weather
Who Am I?

Just some I stole from the website but we were just kind of playing around with different areas such as space, maths, medicine, engineering, movement, evolution, etc etc, anything really!
(It's supposed to be the same blue as the science museum, no idea why it's red)

Initial initial initial layout

Voila!

Woooop

Bonjourno Ravi,

Yes, there will be one large circuit. As far I think we are thinking as a group, the idea is the have a few different circuits: each one for a different area of design, with them all overlapping cleverly into one large design which can be applied to posters/t-shirts etc. Then the different individual circuits can be used on other merchandise. However, we did also discuss cropping into areas of the circuitry for some of these individual aspects. I know what you mean about it getting too large in terms of management though. i think if we stick with the range of ideas we have at the moment and then decide what works and really narrow it down for the presentation so she can clearly see what designs are applied where.
We are creating new symbols for the museum based on images relating to all the areas of science we can think of, so literally anything goes. We are just doing basic line traced drawings at the mo (see Dave's image post), however, feel free to experiment with different styles when you are drawing them. We are all experimenting with different graphic styles this week, trying to get one which fits well and is striking. Definitely have a go at manipulating current symbols aswell, good idea! Then we can decide what's best from there on. I'll email you the illustrator file now with all the symbols we have used so far, but we don't have too many at the moment so get your thinking cap on.
ALSO, get thinking about narrative that could be created with a clever combination of the circuit board symbols and graphic symbols. PHEW, lots of info there. Give me a ring if you need anything else before the end of the day and I'll get it to you. x
YEH BABY!! the ideas coming together, i wasn't 2 sure what was happening there 4 a bit but this visual really helps and makes sense of the whole thing. Am i right thinking there will be 1 large circuit which can be deconstructed? If we have more then one circuit and then each of them will be deconstructed it will get quite large in terms of design and management for the science museum.
Also im not sure if you've said this but are we creating new symbols 4 each part of the museum or manipulating current ones? i think manipulating current symbols will work well, this way the viewer can make a distinct relation to what there looking at with a cheeky reference to a current symbol????? i really wanna do some design 4 this so if you can get me some high res symbols and mail them to my hotmail (gopar@hotmail.co.uk) i can get a start on manipulating them so you can get an idea of what im thinking.
Im working all this weekend on uni stuff so if any of you can send me symbols by 5pm i can transfer them to my mem stick and work on them at home.( I DONT HAVE INTERNET AT HOME!!!! :-( HENCE LOOKING FOR IMAGES I CANNOT DO. and can't do it at work too time consuming and i suprisly have deadlines)

LIKE IT

Like it like it like it. Good development! I should put on my (rather substandard) original version if blogger will let me. Maybe try it landscape too? Might apply better to more souvenirs perhaps
guys i was just a bit bored this afternoon, here is a take on the magma idea. have a look and let me know. I havne't created anything new for it just rearranged it.

For Ravi

you need to start thinking about linking circuits, the shapes/sizes/colours. we were thinking along the lines of having several circuits, mimicking airfix-that all link together. On these circuits there will be symbols, maybe in an order which supplies a narrative.

This design should be able to be deconstructed for the individual products but at the same time be able to fit together in a concise form. The location of the logo needs to be considered.

WE need to think about what symbols can be used to represent all areas of science, from movement to medicine and space to chemicals.
There will be some images to back this up so you can see what going on.

Air Fix model sets

These images show airfix models. We can use these to look at the way the composition of them is structured and the use of typography on them.

Would be a really combo between the circuit board idea and this imagery of air-fix /d.i.y kits.

For Ravi

Hey Ravi, voila, the brief! Sorry it took all day, got slightly distracted by creating our garden today, but it looks AMAZING now, you'll all have to come round for a celebratory bbq when we WIN this thing! Let me know if you need anything else. Faye x

The BRIEF:

Objective:
Design a graphic application for use on a range of merchandise to be sold in the science museum store.

The range should:
Be aimed at adults/teens
Be commmercial
Have wide appeal (all gender/nationality)
Be based on the core content of the science museum and their principals
Incl. the logo
Work across a range of products

Final design work:
Present the design applied to...
Mug
T-shirt
Notebook
Pen
Small wind-up torch

After thinking about and speaking to dave i like the idea of a circuit board as it could link all parts of the museum in a graphic way. This is an example of a circuit board with graphic elements to it.
Also take a look at this site, it shows the basic symbols for electronics on a circuit board, we could possibly manipulate these into the museums values and attractions.

I was just roaming the net today, and came across this little thumbnail, of a circuit
